All of you who know me know how passionate I am about marine conservation, and on 24th September 2017 I will run the Berlin marathon to support a unique organisation. The Sea Ranger Service. I chose to support them because I believe in their unique approach, their goals, and because I believe in the person who is setting up this organisation - an old friend of mine, Wietse van der Werf, who I have been to sea with in the past.
Next year, the Sea Ranger Service will set sail with a brand new first ship to start the worlds first maritime ranger service. To change the way nature conservation is done, they use a very unique and innovative approach. Youth (including long-term unemployed youth) will be trained to become Sea Rangers. Navy veterans will train them to assist nations in the management of their Marine Protected Areas. In this way the initiative tackles youth unemployment, re-integrates veterans and protects en regenerates marine landscape.
Help me raise money to finish building their first sailing ship. It still needs all kinds of equipment (kitchen, masts, sails, berths, etc.) to make it a safe vessel to safeguard our seas for generations to come.
After 16 short weeks of tough training, I am looking forward to this huge physical and mental challenge of my first marathon. Every small donation will make this endeavour even more worth while and be my motivation to push me over that 42.195 km mark! Thank you all for your support!
