Ushersyndroom, als je langzaam doof én blind wordt.
Ushersyndroom is een zeldzame erfelijke aandoening waarbij kinderen doof of slechthorend geboren worden en naast nachtblindheid ook een progressief verlies van zicht ervaren. Soms zijn er ook evenwichtsproblemen. Uiteindelijk worden mensen met Ushersyndroom doof én blind. Behandeling van het Ushersyndroom is nog steeds niet mogelijk.
Stichting Ushersyndroom heeft als missie: “In 2025 is Ushersyndroom behandelbaar”. En daar is heel veel geld voor nodig! De wetenschap staat voor grote uitdagingen in de zoektocht naar oplossingen die moeten leiden tot een behandeling van alle 1000 mensen in Nederland.

Ushersyndrome, when you slowly become deaf AND blind.
Ushersyndrome is a rare hereditary condition in which children are born deaf or hard of hearing and experience progressive vision loss in addition to night blindness. Sometimes there are also balance problems. Eventually, people with Ushersyndrome become deaf as well as blind.
Treatment of Usher syndrome is still not possible. Stichting Ushersyndroom (Dutch Ushersyndrome Foundation) has the mission: "Usher Syndrome will be treatable by 2025". And that requires a lot of money! Science is facing major challenges in the search for solutions that should lead to treatment for all 1,000 people in the Netherlands, 400.000 people worldwide.
