Vanderlande recently launched the Vanderlande Forest Programme, a tree-planting initiative in which we are looking to offset approximately 6,000 tonnes of CO2 by 2022.
For its first project, the Programme has been raising funds to plant trees in Het Groene Woud (the Green Forest), located in North Brabant, The Netherlands. The total project consists of four sub-areas, comprising a total of 46 hectares. Not-for-profit organisation Trees for All is facilitating the planting of new ‘loam’ forests in the area.
In support of this amazing cause – and to raise awareness and money for the initiative – Project Manager Engineering Peter Verhoeven has challenged himself to run 84.4k (52.4 miles) in a 24-hour period! This is twice the distance of a marathon, and Peter hopes to reach this target by running a small distance every hour.
Peter will begin his run on Saturday 26th December at 6pm, and expects to reach the finish line at 6pm on Sunday 27th. “I will be doing the runs close to my home in Heesch to ensure that I have everything at hand, such as food and drink,” he explains. "To reach an average of 3.6k per hour, I will run a mix of longer and shorter distances, depending on how I feel.”
Word has already spread about Peter’s idea, and Vanderlande's CHRO Raf Lamberts and Senior Coordinator Legal & Risk Management Masa from TICO (Toyota Industries Corporation) have also decided to participate. Raf by walking the same distance and Masa by running the 84.4k in the same 24-hour period.
Join us in sponsoring Peter, Raf and Masa in this movement! All proceeds will be donated to the Vanderlande Forest Programme.
