Luyando Foundation Women in Africa want to raise funds to purchase a land for the Luyando School.
Our goal is to raise € 20,000 in order to purchase the new land for the Luyando School and build two toilets.
New plot for Luyando School
The land will be purchased from within John Laing community located near Luyando School situated south west of Lusaka City, about 2.7 kilometres from the Civic Centre. The land is 15 meters by 15 meters (13mx15m). There are two rooms already on the land that can help us to kick start and 4 unfinished room. However, in the future the building is going to be demolish and a new solid and permanent building will be constructed in order to eliminate the fear of the building collapsing. We have 15 days to purchase the land or the land will be offered to the general public for sale.
Why are we asking a donation of € 20,000?
Currently the Luyando School is using a renting building. The rent fluctuated from time to time. In 2013, the school was closed due to lack of funds to pay the rent. However, we managed to put 40%of the children in another school. The rest where send back home due to lack of funds. Five months later, Luyando School was reopened. The new land will allowed Luyando School to relocate to another location where the children can go to school. This allow the teachers to operate with more confidence and focus on giving the lessons to the children.
Luyando School is close in 2016
Recently there was an outbreak of cholera in Zambia due to heavy rains. On February 18 the school was closed by ministry of health for cholera prevention. Luyando School does not have proper toilets and running water. However, the school has a temporary toilet which was built next to one of the classroom. The temporally toilet has no proper structure and it is not in good condition.
The cholera health inspection team wants Luyando School to implement the recommended activities. These activities are building a proper toilet, provide clean water in the school and place garbage bins in and outside the school.
